How to embed comment-form below posts

One of the most requested feature by bloggers in their blogspot blogs, is to have comment-form embedded below their posts, so that visitors need not go away from the post just for the sake of making a comment. Although till date most of the bloggers don't know about this feature and hence are using pop-up comment form, but embedding the comment-from below the posts is much better than those pop-ups. You can see this feature in action, in this blog itself.

To start with, first of all, you should know that apart from Blogger there is a Beta version of blogger too, with a sub-domain "Draft" :- Draft.Blogger.com
In this beta version of blogger some improved features are added.

Now follow these steps:
1. Go to draft.blogger.com, and NOT to blogger.com, and login as usual
2. Now go to Settings tab
3. Now click on comments link
4. Then in front of , select the radio-button of

5. Now go to "Layout" Tab
6. Then click on "Edit HTML"
7. Now check the box of Expand Widget Templates
8.Then search for this code:
<b:include data='post' name='comments'/>
9. And immediately after this, add this code-line:
<b:include data='post' name='comment-form'/>
That's it....Now your visitors can easily comment on your posts without leaving the page.

Hmm, didn't work for me. Followed your directions to the letter -- what I get is a big blank space under the post where the comment form *should be* but no comment form.
Argh. :(
The code for the comment form seems to be in the right place in the generated page -- just no comment form.

Hi Paul
I checked your site, now it's working fine, can you please explain what was going wrong, so that it may help other bloggers too ...

Happy too. I used your information above (by the way, other info on your site worked perfectly, so thanks for doing this!!!), and got the results above. Spent some time going back and forth between draft blogger and regular, and finally figured it out: as of a few weeks ago, the "embedded comment form" is no longer a draft feature, it's part of regular blooger. Apparently sticking in your code on draft, AND enabling embedded comments on the non-draft editing page caused a conflict in code...what made it really bad was that after doing your mod, and downloading my template, neither draft nor regular would accept that template as an upload any longer, and would throw errors.
I reverted to a previous template, turned off (in non-draft) embedded comments, put back some features I'd put in like expandable summaries, then re-enabled embedded comments in non-draft blogger; then it all worked.
Your instructions were perfect, it's just that blogger moved the option out of draft, so your instructions now cause a code problem if you've enabled the feature in non-draft.
At least that's the best I could figure out :)
Thanks for checking, and for the great site.

Thanks a lot Paul, for telling and describing everything in so detail, I hope others, will also get the benefit from your comments, as even I didn't know that non-draft blogger has now started the "comment-form" option....

Well if you have logged in to draft.blogger.com and still getting error, that may be because of the cache memory of your browser. So change your internet browser (IE or Firefox of Opera etc) and try this again. If still getting an error, comment here.
And please do not post anonymously, or at least leave a link to your blog, so that I can check your blog while replying !

Hmmm

actually now there's no need to go to Draft.Blogger.Com for doing this hack, as Blogger has shifted this feature from beta blogger to Blogger.com.

So just try this out:

First go to settings. Select the Comment Form Placement as "full page" option.
Check in the blog if it's working.

Then again go to settings, and select the option "Embedded below post". Now if the form appears directly then it's well and fine. Otherwise, go to layout
And then add that New line to the code and check your blog.

Delete the line;

<b:include data='post' name='comment-form'/>

from your template, check your blog, and go to settings, set the comment form placement as pop-up or full page.
Save it.
Then again select as comment form placement as "embed below post"then again add that line to your blog template.

Hi Sammer,

In your blog neither a comment-form nor a comment link is visible. I think there's some problem with your template or settings. As you have just started blogging, so do this:
Change the template temporarily to Minima white,

go to settings -> Comments. Select the Comment Form Placement as "full page" option.
Check in the blog if it's working.

Then again go to settings, and select the option "Embedded below post". Now if the form appears directly then it's well and fine. Otherwise, go to layout
And then add that New line (from the code above) to the template-code and check your blog.

Hi and thanks for your articles and your help. I was wondering if you could help me with my blog stavrospolyviou.blogspot.com. I have tried "embedded", switching back and forth between "embedded" and "in a new window", adding the extra line, substituting a whole code area, but nothing has worked, so that I can see the comment form embedded under my posts. I appreciate your help. PS: stavrospolyviou2.blogspot.com has been a 2nd blog I am using for testing, with no luck though.

In Blogger blogs, with word verification enabled, you first view the comment as a preview and then the word verification appears just below the preview-comment, which partly gets hidden, and so the readers may not see it, and they leave the page without commenting completely.

My suggestion is to remove the word verification system from your blog (Settings->Comments->Show word verification for comments?->NO), you can still easily moderate comments from your email, the same way as I do in my blog:
http://bloggerstop.net/2008/12/easily-moderate-comments-in-blogspot.html

And if you still want a proper word-verification system then you may have a look on these new comment-forms:

I have tried all methods to get the comments to show below posts to no avail. I have a fairly manipulated blogger template http://thepeacetree.blogspot.com

I find two comment forms but either (both) only show when I hit comment link or post title. I have tried each method you have suggested in the comment section. Embedded on post pages- okay. Pop up- okay. Full page- okay. Embedded below post without leaving the page- NOT okay.

I have looked for dual <div class='comments..."> but found none. I did find a "<div class='comments' id='comments'>" but unsure of the problem with this great hack not working for me... Help?

Peace,
Mark

Hello Buddy,
I am actually quite busy for the next 1 week. So I may not help you in depth, but if you want to have a comment system as displayed in this blog, then try out JS-Kit, read the post here:

Been there done that. :>/

I am trying to stay with blogger comments despite their limitations.

The JS kit Intense Debate system is cool, but I found my commenters drop off greatly after I implemented it last month. Now i am starting fresh, so to speak.

I will find a way, somehow, to get the comments to show below my posts without being in a post page.

I appreciate your quick reply and wish you the best.

Thank you,
Mark (thepoetryman)

Sai, I did what you said, will you see if it works, I don't know if it looks the same for me as it does for you. Also, I tried to do the page breaks like you said. I read the little mini tutorial about how to do it, it was very simple looking so I did it, I clicked the page break icon and saw the gray line but it's not working when I view my blog. (P.S. I think I've been writing messages to you all over different pages of your blog, I'm worried that I am not keeping track of which page to check back for responses. Are there any I haven't replied to yet? And can your responses be automatically emailed to me with a link? I'm pretty demanding huh? --Kelly Mugar Juell www.juellsjewel.blogspot.com

Kelly,

Your "read more"-post truncation is working properly. You have used it only in your first post and it has truncated your post after this... "waiting to happen. "
So, use that break in your other posts too.

But I would suggest you to shift the "read more" link to the right side of your posts. Look the second code of STEP #8 from tihs page: Read More Hack

The best way to keep a track on your comments is to subscribe to the comments-threads. Click on that blue link "subscribe by email" just below the comment-form and you'll get a mail whenever I/someone else comments back. And of course as soon as you got your answer, unsubscribe from that page. Anyways here are your other comments:
1. Collapsible multi-tabbed widget
2. New multi-tabbed widget

Hello

I just created a blogger blog and I am customizing it now.

But when I search for the code with Ctrl F as you instructed I was told No matches found.

I then scrolled down the template and this is what I found

/* Comments
----------------------------------------------- */
#comments h4 {
margin:1em 0;
font-weight: bold;
line-height: 1.4em;
text-transform:uppercase;
letter-spacing:.2em;
color: $sidebarcolor;
padding: 5px;
border:1px solid $bordercolor;
background-color:#transparent;

}

#comments-block {
margin:1em 0 1.5em;
line-height:1.6em;
}
#comments-block .comment-author {
margin:.5em 0;
}
#comments-block .comment-body {
margin:.25em 0 0;
}
#comments-block .comment-footer {
margin:-.25em 0 2em;
line-height: 1.4em;
text-transform:uppercase;
letter-spacing:.1em;
}
#comments-block .comment-body p {
margin:0 0 .75em;
}
.deleted-comment {
font-style:italic;
color:gray;
}

The blog is http://relation-issues-and-answers.blogspot.com

Most probably you have disabled commenting on your blog.
Go to settings -> Comments
and
In front of comments it should be "Show"
In front of Who Can Comment? select either "Anyone" or "Registered Users"
And finally in front of "Comments Default for Posts" select "New Posts Have comments"
Then write a new post and see if it has a comment form or not.

On my main posts, the comment box works perfectly - but on the 'Pages' I've added, in the posting options if I select 'Comments allowed' two comment boxes appear.

I've looked for the div class='comment-form' and can only find it once and not repeated.

Is there a fix for this? Am I making sense? Please could you have a look to see where I'm going wrong? Thank you very much.
