Change Post A Comment - Link and Text From Blogger/BlogSpot Blogs

From To

If you think that the phrase "Post A Comment" looks too old on your blog, then here's a simple hack to replace it with your own words.

If you are not using the embedded comment form, then there will be a link "Post A Comment" on your blog. And if you are using the embedded comment form in your blog, then there wouldn't be a "Post A Comment" link in your blog, But you it will be present as simple TEXT, just above the comment box.

To replace the phrase, follow these steps:
Log in to Blogger.com, then go to Layout and click on Edit HTML tab.

Now mark the Expand Widget Templates

Find (CTRL+F) these code (RED) lines in your template code:
<a expr:href='data:post.addCommentUrl' expr:onclick='data:post.addCommentOnclick'><data:postCommentMsg/></a>
and this one too:
<h4 id='comment-post-message'><data:postCommentMsg/></h4>

Now replace the code in RED color, with whatever text you want, like "Sign The Guest book" etc.

And to use any other font/image instead of simple text, create a small image with your new message, upload it to Tinypic to get the DIRECT LINK to this image.
Now replace the code highlighted in RED color with this code:
<img src="http://tinypic.com/***/DIRECT_LINK_TO_YOUR_NEW_IMAGE.jpg"/>
and finally save the template.

it didnt work.. said there should be a matching end xml tag :(

Divya Sai said...

Dude simply delete the code in red and write anything over there, it shouldn't give any error !

Edie said...

Can you tell me how to reposition the "Post a Comment" link please. I need to increase the margin but I can't find the code that applies to that link.

Divya Sai said...

Hi Edie,

Keep the red part in the code above (in the post) between the div tags, like this:

<h4 id='comment-post-message'><div style="text-align: right;"><data:postCommentMsg/></div></h4>

You can similarly change other font styles too, I hope you got it !

Regards
Sai

Edie said...

Hi Sai!

Thanks for your quick response. I did that but it didn't work. Here is my copied code. I replaced the brackets with () for the purpose of this comment field box. They are brackets in the actual code.

(h4 id='comment-post-message')(div style='text-align: right;'/)(data:postCommentMsg/)(/h4)

Here is a link to the page.
http://rgcreate.blogspot.com/2008/08/blockquote-post.html

What I have been trying to do is get the "Post a Comment" link to move over to the right. If I could set a margin of 20px that would do it but nothing I have tried has worked.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Edie said...

Shouldn't this code work in the Head

#comments-block .comment-post-message {
margin-$startSide: 20px;
}

Edie said...

Sorry for so many comments. I saw my error in the code you gave me and tried it again as follows. Again substituting <> for ().

(h4 id='comment-post-message')(div style='text-align: right;')(data:postCommentMsg/)(/div)(/h4)

Still didn't work. :((

Divya Sai said...

Hmmm, okay try this code, I have tried this method on this blog itself...

<h4 id='comment-post-message'><div style="text-align: right;">Post A Comment</div></h4>

Edie said...

Still nothing.

Divya Sai said...

Okay....then first delete the code in red (<data:postCommentMsg/>), and something different like "Share Your Views" or "Please Comment" etc. & check if you are editing the right code or not...
And if it is not changing the text after saving the template, then there might be some other code in the template....

Edie said...

Ha! That's the problem!

I have not been able to find the code that applies to this. All the other text in that area is controled by the #comments-block or #blog-pager code but this one link won't budge no matter what I do.

If you think you know where I should look please share, but if not then don't worry about it. I will play with it some more. I appreciate your help!

Sai said...

Ohk...you are talking about the "link" ?...

Then it is the first code in the post:
<a expr:href='data:post.addCommentUrl' expr:onclick='data:post.addCommentOnclick'><data:postCommentMsg/></a>Try to change the 'data:' thing in this code...and see if the link changes...

Hi Divya Sai,

How do I increase the "post a comment" font(link) size? if it is little bigger then readers may interested to post comment.

Thanks

Okay, thanks for the tips. But, how to change the font style and add cool graphic like you do in here? I means, in here you change "post a comment" to be "Share your views", and before that there is a pic on it. How to do it? Also, I would be very grateful if you willing to fill a survey about mymymy at http://www.keyr.com/analysis/mymymy.html. This is for a research. Thanks. Don't forget answering my question, okay? :D

Actually I was already planning to update this post with what you asked for. So thanks to you, I just updated it...check out the last few lines of post...you'll get your answer.

Hello there. I'm having trouble with the codes. I can change the link name but for some reason it gives me an error message when i put the < img src=" "> code. This is the message:

Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: The element type "img" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "".

Help?

Liz said...

Okay, solved the problem!

Divya Sai said...

Thanks for mentioning the error Liz, I have corrected it in the post...

Rico said...

Hi, I love your site, mate. Nice topic too. I have few questions for you. Sorry if my question is little out of the topic. How can I limit the number of comments available in one post? Example, I want to limit that after 40 comments, there is no possibility to post a new comment in this post. Since I found no post about that case in here. OR maybe I miss that one... Dunno about that. Thanks, Rico the erezione

Sai @ BloggerStop.Net said...

Well that is only possible in WordPress Rico, that too it is limited by no. of days and not no. of comments.
But if you want you can do this manually. As soon as a post has 40 comments, edit it too and make commenting inactive in that particular post.

Rico said...

Thanks for the reply. So I must edit the html for the post? Is that what you mean? -Rico-

Divya Sai said...

No not the HTML, right below the editor, click on "post options" and then select the option as highlighted in this screenshot:

Hi, I am looking to move the comments link from the top of the post to the bottom. I have tried moving it around in code a number of times with no luck and my Layout screens shows it below the post, so I'm not sure why it's still at the top.

Hello Sai o/

I'm ok with HTML but new to blogger codes, and I'm having serious problems with my comment form.. I made my template myself (i now think it was stupid because of all the problems lol) and now the comments are not working at all. It's reeally frustrating and I'm hopeless!

Could you maybe take a look at elinabur.blogspot.com and give me a hint of what should I do? I think I've added all the codes there should be for the form to work but no :(

Thanks for the blog, so happy I found it randomly with google!

I appreciate your post. I also wrote that SMS advertising provides a cost effective method of targeting promotions to specific customer profiles. You might want to remind customers of specific events or promotions, but for whatever reasons, SMS allows you to pass information directly to the right customer at very affordable prices and fast delivery.

Hi,
I am at brandylowdesigns.blogspot.com.

I recently changed my template in Aug. and now I no longer show a box for comments after each post. I haven't been able to receive comments since end of July. People recently started emailing me telling me of the problem.
Also many people are trying to sign up to be a follower but it isn't working either.
I posted on Blogger forum but no one has answered me.
Can you help?
